Putnam County is located about 50 miles south of Jacksonville on U.S. Highway 17, thirty miles west of St. Augustine on State Road 207, forty-five miles east of Gainesville on State Road 20 and ninety miles north of Orlando on U.S. Highway 17.

From the northeast: Putnam County is approximately 25 miles off of Interstate 95. Exit onto State Road 207, go west on 207 about 22 miles to U.S. Highway 17, turn right (North) and travel 3 miles into Palatka, which is the Putnam County seat.

From the northwest: Interstate 75 is located 65 miles west of Putnam County. Exit in Gainesville, Florida onto State Road 26 East, travel approximately 10 miles and merge right onto State Road 20 which brings you through the west end of Putnam County (Interlachen) and into the center of Downtown Palatka.

From the southeast: From Interstate 95 exit onto State Road 100 just north of Daytona, travel west on 100 approximately 45 miles. State Road 100 merges with U.S. Highway 17 in Putnam County, just outside of Palatka.

From the southwest: From Interstate 75, exit just north of Ocala onto County Road 318, turn right and travel east to County Road 315, turn left and travel a short distance to County Road 310, turn right and go to end at State Road 19, turn left (north) to State Road 20 and follow into Palatka.

Palatka is fortunate to be one of the 33 cities in Florida to have an Amtrak Station, and one of only four located along the St. Johns River. The station is a flag stop station and is located behind the Chamber of Commerce at 1100 Reid Street (also U.S. Highway 17). Jacksonville International Airport is located 65 miles north of Putnam County; Orlando International Airport is approximately 90 miles to the south. Daytona International Airport and Gainesville Regional Airport are both within an hour’s reach of Putnam County. All have rental cars available.

Kay Larkin Municipal Airport is located in Palatka on State Road 100. Rental cars available with advance notice. Crew car available. General aviation airport offering the following: Runway 09/27 5505 feet with a thousand foot overrun on both ends, lighted with a four box PAPI system. NDB approach, Runway 17/35 3500 feet with a two box PAPI system and Runway 12/30 3000 feet non-illuminated.

The mouth of the St. Johns River is at Mayport on the Atlantic Ocean in Jacksonville, Florida. Enjoy a scenic boat journey by traveling in a westerly direction on the St. Johns through the city of Jacksonville, then follow on down south approximately 55 miles into Downtown Palatka.
